My Personal Favorites from Ralph Lauren Spring 21 Collection

“I don’t design clothes, I design dreams.”

Okay, now where do I start?

Ralph Lauren is a strong brand – most popular for the Polo shirts. But for some reasons I never cared enough to follow the updates of this brand.

Yesterday I saw Vogue‘s post about Ralph Lauren Spring 2021 collection and of course, I didn’t just ignore that post. So I visited Vogue website to take a peek at the full collection. I was intrigued, to say the least.

I don’t have much to say, except I really like several pieces from the collection. I do expect something slightly different, but since I’m not totally familiar with the concept(s) of the brand, I know I shouldn’t complain. But overall, the whole collection is really pleasing to look at. Expressive, modern, and enduring, the way Lauren designed them for.

My designs have always been about creating a world that is beyond fashion, a world of romance and timeless sophistication.

RALPH LAUREN

Pearl and Daisies

When I was 15 or 16 years old, I was basically obsessed with pearls, as they symbolized perfection – and I wanted to be perfect. When I was 17 years old, I became interested in the beauty of daisies. I think it’s symbolic that daisies often mean ‘new beginnings’, and age of 17 was indeed a start of pure chaos, acceptance, actual growth, and bigger things in my life. Now I like both pearls and daisies equally. They’re among the loveliest adornment and inspiration in fashion.

Considering how these two were notable elements in my life, what else would I expect after I discovered an online Malaysian-based shop named Pearl and Daisies? Nothing less! The clothes they design and sell are as pretty as the name suggests.

When you were sleeping pajama sets – RM 89 (US$21.85) each

Everyone deserves to be comfortable sleeping. Not only do these sets provide comfort, they’re gorgeous too, aren’t they?

Ethereal pajama sets – RM 169 (US$41.49) each

If you want something more lacy, feminine, angelic, then an Ethereal pajama set is definitely the one for you. They’re made with premium lace and cotton – which means they’re actually comfortable, there’s nothing to worry about.

Femme Fatale dresses – RM 69 (US$16.94) each

Perhaps these dresses are ones of my favorites from Pearl and Daisies. The vintage effect is mesmerizing. They will possibly make you feel like you’re in Paris in the 1950s spring.

That Feels dresses – RM 169 (US$41.49) each

Just look at how cute they are! So simple yet so cute. They can be worn anywhere and anytime too. By the way, the materials are expensive soft knitwear, mesh, cotton, and polyester. I don’t always love knitwear, but the knitwear of these dresses actually seems adequate.

Forevermore dresses – RM 149 (US$36.58) each

My, do I even have the most suitable word to describe how attracted I am to light pink Forevermore dress? Can I wear it as my wedding dress, please?

Oh, and Muslimahs can request full lining when ordering a Forevermore dress! So yes, it will be truly appropriate for Muslimahs. Whoever said Muslimahs can’t be aesthetic queens?

You can see more of their collections on their Instagram and website. There is also a Bridgerton-inspired collection on their site, with discounts exclusively for students.

Spring Has Sprung

It’s already 5 days since spring started! What are we wearing? Florals? Groundbreaking.

You can read all about fashion trends of spring 2021 on Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle Canada, TheTrendSpotter, Who What Wear, StyleCaster, etc. You can even watch the Summer-Spring 2021 shows on YouTube to study the trends. But if you’re not interested in trends, here’s a short guide to a simple, pretty spring style.

  • Floral dresses would never disappoint.

It’s true, floral dresses and spring are basically inseparable soulmates – who would even disagree with this? Miranda Priestly? Doesn’t matter who doesn’t like floral dresses. All I know is, if you’re confident in them and will absolutely own them, they would not fail you.

Cottagecore dresses are spring’s best buddies too! Check my other posts to know where you can purchase such dresses from. I constantly support cottagecore businesses by posting about them.

  • Headband is the most important accessory to complete your look.

Normally I’d say necklace and ring are the most important – however, cute headband has a bigger role in spring. It’s effortlessly adorable and give so much personality to your hair.

  • Scrunchies will never go out of style.

You can wear scrunchies anywhere and everywhere! They’re so versatile and useful. Whether you use a scrunchie simply to tie up your hair or to wear it on your on your wrist, it looks good no matter what – even more during spring, when you’re surrounded by flowers and all!

Generally speaking, none of us have to stick with certain styles or rules no matter the season. Maybe some people do want to look like they actually have the spirit and passion for a particular situation – but whatever floats your boat. Just be yourself and have fun!

Movies for Fashion Lovers!

“I watched movies for the plot” – well, hate to break it to you, but if you’re a fashion lover, how can you be so sure that you don’t watch it for the fashion, or for the fashion icons among the cast? Speaking as a fashion addict myself, I personally watch Audrey Hepburn movies mainly because she was a sophisticated style icon.

Let’s face it – movies are one of the biggest sources for our OOTD inspirations aside from fashion shows, magazines, blogs, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube, etc. – and even these platforms feature outfits, accessories, and jewelry from movies every once in a while.

Today, I’m listing my top ten picks of movies specifically made for fashion lovers – and of course, anyone who don’t really care about fashion can watch these as well.

  1. Sabrina (1954)
Audrey Hepburn as Sabrina Fairchild in ‘Sabrina’

I’m honestly surprised Sabrina doesn’t get even more recognition it deserves. Probably the age gap between Hepburn and her co-star, Humphrey Bogart, is the main problem here. Other than the weird age gap, the movie is so beautiful. Sabrina Fairchild’s outfits and dresses are iconic. If you struggle a lack of confidence, try watching this movie and learn from Miss Fairchild – you may find yourself being loved by wealthy brothers who will almost fight for you.

2. Funny Face (1957)

Audrey Hepburn as Jo Stockton in ‘Funny Face’

To anyone who has watched Funny Face: I know you can’t get the famed scarlet Givenchy dress out of your mind. Such a stunning masterpiece! If you haven’t watched it yet, please do. I guarantee you will love it – and you will love Audrey Hepburn so much.

3. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’

Can you actually have breakfast at Tiffany’s? No, you can’t. But you can watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s instead! Amazing fashion sense, love for Tiffany’s, acceptance for someone who actually loves her, a chaotic party, dark past… However it has problematic elements in it, and I won’t defend it at all – my one advice is, watch it if you’d like to and acknowledge its offenses at the same time.

4. Clueless (1995)

Stacey Dash, Alicia Silverstone, and Brittany Murphy as Dionne, Cher, and Tai in ‘Clueless’

I believe all fashion lovers have seen this movie, probably more than fifty times! Fashion from Clueless remained trendy in 2020 and fingers crossed that the trends stay in 2021.

5. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

Devon Aoki as Suki in ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’

Devon Aoki’s 00s bad girl character, Suki, is one of the most channeled character of all time – Rihanna herself channeled Suki in her Fenty Beauty campaign. Need I say more?

Also, I know the movie is not focused on fashion but it still serves some of the most iconic looks and styles of 00s.

6. Mean Girls (2004)

Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, and Rachel McAdams as the Plastics in ‘Mean Girls’

Fun and hilarious, this movie is a timeless classic. It’s arguably one of the most iconic chick flick ever made. You’d find quotes, memes, and fashion inspos from Mean Girls everywhere.

“On Wednesdays, we wear pink”. How many fashion ‘rules’ have you learned from The Plastics? How about we watch this movie again?

7. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Meryl Streep really brought her character, Miranda Priestly to life. I can’t get enough of her performance. The plot is genuinely interesting and the fashion items are… oh my, how do I even describe them? So yes, you really should watch The Devil Wears Prada.

8. Coco Before Chanel (2009)

Audrey Tautou as Young Coco Chanel in ‘Coco Before Chanel’

I think we can all agree that Coco Chanel was one of the most powerful woman ever. Without her, Chanel wouldn’t exist, and that’s awful, I don’t even want to imagine. Coco Before Chanel details her early life, and how she started an elegant and sophisticated line of women’s clothing that propelled her to the top of Parisian haute couture.

9. The Great Gatsby (2013)

Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Joel Edgerton in ‘The Great Gatsby’

This movie is a stupendous traitor to actual 1920s fashion – but again, the clothes are fabulous and screams RICH RICH, so it’s fine. Watch it if you don’t care about historical inaccuracy.

10. Crazy Rich Asians ( 2018)

Constance Wu as Rachel Chu in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’

The costume designs for Crazy Rich Asians are splendidly cute. But aside from that, this movie is genuinely so good and it’s not only because of the clothes. I say it’s worthy to watch.
