“I watched movies for the plot” – well, hate to break it to you, but if you’re a fashion lover, how can you be so sure that you don’t watch it for the fashion, or for the fashion icons among the cast? Speaking as a fashion addict myself, I personally watch Audrey Hepburn movies mainly because she was a sophisticated style icon.
Let’s face it – movies are one of the biggest sources for our OOTD inspirations aside from fashion shows, magazines, blogs, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube, etc. – and even these platforms feature outfits, accessories, and jewelry from movies every once in a while.
Today, I’m listing my top ten picks of movies specifically made for fashion lovers – and of course, anyone who don’t really care about fashion can watch these as well.
- Sabrina (1954)

I’m honestly surprised Sabrina doesn’t get even more recognition it deserves. Probably the age gap between Hepburn and her co-star, Humphrey Bogart, is the main problem here. Other than the weird age gap, the movie is so beautiful. Sabrina Fairchild’s outfits and dresses are iconic. If you struggle a lack of confidence, try watching this movie and learn from Miss Fairchild – you may find yourself being loved by wealthy brothers who will almost fight for you.
2. Funny Face (1957)

To anyone who has watched Funny Face: I know you can’t get the famed scarlet Givenchy dress out of your mind. Such a stunning masterpiece! If you haven’t watched it yet, please do. I guarantee you will love it – and you will love Audrey Hepburn so much.
3. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

Can you actually have breakfast at Tiffany’s? No, you can’t. But you can watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s instead! Amazing fashion sense, love for Tiffany’s, acceptance for someone who actually loves her, a chaotic party, dark past… However it has problematic elements in it, and I won’t defend it at all – my one advice is, watch it if you’d like to and acknowledge its offenses at the same time.
4. Clueless (1995)

I believe all fashion lovers have seen this movie, probably more than fifty times! Fashion from Clueless remained trendy in 2020 and fingers crossed that the trends stay in 2021.
5. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

Devon Aoki’s 00s bad girl character, Suki, is one of the most channeled character of all time – Rihanna herself channeled Suki in her Fenty Beauty campaign. Need I say more?
Also, I know the movie is not focused on fashion but it still serves some of the most iconic looks and styles of 00s.
6. Mean Girls (2004)

Fun and hilarious, this movie is a timeless classic. It’s arguably one of the most iconic chick flick ever made. You’d find quotes, memes, and fashion inspos from Mean Girls everywhere.
“On Wednesdays, we wear pink”. How many fashion ‘rules’ have you learned from The Plastics? How about we watch this movie again?
7. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Meryl Streep really brought her character, Miranda Priestly to life. I can’t get enough of her performance. The plot is genuinely interesting and the fashion items are… oh my, how do I even describe them? So yes, you really should watch The Devil Wears Prada.
8. Coco Before Chanel (2009)

I think we can all agree that Coco Chanel was one of the most powerful woman ever. Without her, Chanel wouldn’t exist, and that’s awful, I don’t even want to imagine. Coco Before Chanel details her early life, and how she started an elegant and sophisticated line of women’s clothing that propelled her to the top of Parisian haute couture.
9. The Great Gatsby (2013)

This movie is a stupendous traitor to actual 1920s fashion – but again, the clothes are fabulous and screams RICH RICH, so it’s fine. Watch it if you don’t care about historical inaccuracy.
10. Crazy Rich Asians ( 2018)

The costume designs for Crazy Rich Asians are splendidly cute. But aside from that, this movie is genuinely so good and it’s not only because of the clothes. I say it’s worthy to watch.
